Quartz Chatoyant

Names like Tiger's Eye, Cats Eye, Bull's Eye, Hawk's Eye and Red Tiger, are the names of the same stone but with different colors. The property of Chatoyancy characterizes this very hard stone, makes it change the brightness against light with movement. A variety called Iron Tiger is admired for its unusual color mixture.

SiO2 - Silicon Dioxide

Tiger Eye is black with iron oxide staining which gives it yellow and golden brown stripes. It is a type of chatoyant quartz. Generally, you will not find faceted tiger eye. This stone is often called "Tiger's Eye" or simply "Tiger Eye".

Care and Treatment

Tiger Eye is often heat treated. This is permanent so no extra care is required.

As with all gems, protect topaz from scratches and sharp blows. Also avoid large temperature changes (such as leaving it be a heater vent or in a hot car).

Hardness

Tiger Eye has a hardness of 7.

Specific Gravity: 2.65 - 2.66
